You should know that . . .
Due to Safety Considerations your vehicle may not be tested if:
• It has fuel,
oil or coolant leaks
• It has visible
smoke
• It has excessive
exhaust leaks
• The idle is not
set to factory specifications
• The inspector
would have to reach more than an elbow length under the vehicle to
insert the sampling probe.
Your vehicle will undergo a 2 point tampering check prior to the emissions test. The emission control devices subject to inspection are:
• a catalytic converter
(Only if your vehicle was manufactured with a catalytic converter)
• and a fuel gas
cap
If you fail the emissions test, the Department has an ASE certified mechanic on staff to assist you. He provides free diagnostic information and can help determine why the vehicle is not passing. If you are registered in Hamilton, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, or Wilson county please call 532-8378 or toll-free 1-866-329-9632 for more information.
You can have your vehicle tested at any station regardless of where the vehicle is registered.
The last week in the month is the busiest. Emission tests are good for 90 days, so come early and save yourself some time.
The overall average waiting time at stations is approximately 5 minutes.
• Tuesdays and
Wednesdays continue to be unusually high volume inspection days compared
to the rest of the week.
• Thursday or Friday
afternoon, and Saturdays are the best times to visit a station,
unless it happens to be the end of the month.
The cost of an inspection is only $10.00. No checks or bills over $20.00 accepted.
