Situated in the center of Tennessee, the Fleming Training Center (FTC) offers training, certification and technical assistance to water and wastewater systems and personnel throughout Tennessee. FTC is located at 2022 Blanton Drive, Murfreesboro, TN 37129, (615) 898-8090, fax (615) 898-8064. The hours of operation are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Central Time.

CERTIFICATION

Tennessee offers 14 types of certificates. Each certified operator possesses certain experience requirements, has a high school education or equivalent, and has scored 70% or higher on an examination. Each certificate is renewed annually. Completion of the required number of continuing education hours every three years is required to maintain certification.

Beginning Oct 1, 2002, the following hours of Continuing Education are required to maintain certification;

Water Treatment 4 12 hours every 3 years
Water Treatment 3 12 hours every 3 years
Water Treatment 2 6 hours every 3 years
Water Treatment 1 6 hours every 3 years
Small Water System  6 hours every 3 years
Distribution 2 6 hours every 3 years
Distribution 1 6 hours every 3 years
Wastewater Treatment 4 12 hours every 3 years
Wastewater Treatment 3 12 hours every 3 years
Wastewater Treatment 2 6 hours every 3 years
Wastewater Treatment 1 6 hours every 3 years
Biological/Natural Systems 6 hours every 3 years
Collection 2 6 hours every 3 years
Collection 1 6 hours every 3 years

TRAINING

FTC offers fundamental and advanced training in water treatment, water distribution systems, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection systems, as well as seminars designed to assist operators in obtaining their required continuing education. The class schedule will assist students in finding the appropriate class(es). Written registration is required to assure admittance to all classes. Most of the text can be acquired through the American Water Works Association (for water treatment and distribution systems) or California State University at Sacramento (for wastewater treatment and collection systems).

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

Technical assistance is available by the training staff. If you operate a plant or system in Tennessee, you may request an onsite visit, consult with staff over the phone, or send an email message.
