The waste tire cleanup grant is a grant designed to assist local governments in the cleanup of un-permitted waste tire sites.   Eligibility for this grant is determined by priority as established by the nine Environmental Field Offices.  Each grant cycle, two sites from each field office are invited to compete for funds to assist in the cleanup of these un-permitted waste tire sites.

This grant is an unmatched grant that allow the county to go beyond the $70 per ton waste tire grant fund and contract for services to mitigate the site, provide for equipment purchase of leases, labor needs, access to site and other activities related to the mitigation.

There is no match required by this grant.  The number of grants will be limited by the availability of funds each grant cycle based on the cost of the cleanups.  Each year up to $500,000 may  be set aside.

This grant is provided under:

T.C.A. § 68-211-831 From funds available from the solid waste management fund, the department may, directly or by contract, provide for the investigation and clean-up of unpermitted waste tire disposal sites and other unpermitted solid waste disposal sites. The department shall attempt to recover funds expended from the person responsible for the disposal of the waste tires or solid waste pursuant to § 68-211-117.
