** Attention ** On June 15, 2004, the EPA made final a rule regarding National Emission Standards for Stationary Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (RICE) located at major sources of hazardous air pollutants (HAP) . RICE engines that are in operation with more than 500 brake horsepower at major sources of HAP emissions or used for emergency power are required to be in compliance by June 15, 2007. Owners and operators are required to have certain engines tested and certified. For additional details, please see the full published RICE Rule at the EPA site.

EPA proposed on June 12, 2006, New Performance standards for stationary Spark Ignition Internal Combustion Engines and NESHAPS for Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (RICE).
