Giles County Youth Program

Giles County KidsYouth programs play an important role in Giles County and also the surrounding counties of Middle Tennessee. These programs allow the children to learn about the world around them in a fun and interesting way.

Through programs such as Leaps and Bounds the children learn about wildlife habitats and the diversity of wildlife that uses them. Through the youth hunts and Hunter Education programs the children learn about a heritage that has been passed down since the world began.

All of these programs also give the officers a chance to be a positive influence on the children of our communities at an early age.

Leaps and Bounds Outdoor Classroom
Leaps and Bounds is an after school program that allows the children a hands on experience with things that they would normally not have an opportunity to experience.

The outdoor classroom is a project that allows the kids to learn about wildlife management and agriculture. It is also a chance for the kids to give back to the school and their community. The classroom is a six acre bottom located in front of Southside Elementary School. It contains a viewing platform along with six different habitats.

Giles County Trap Teams
The Giles County trap teams have been a great success. There are currently three schools involved with plans for more. Giles County High School, Richland High School, and Richland Middle School all have teams this year and plans are being made to combine the South Giles Middle Schools (Elkton and Minor Hill) as a fourth team.

Hunter Education Classes
The Hunter’s Safety Classes are offered two times a year county wide. We have a class in the spring that is usually the first week of March and a class in the fall that is usually the third week in August. We have some great volunteers that help us put these classes together.

Youth Programs
Several youth programs are done through-out the year. They range from school talks to youth hunts. We also have a K-9 in the county named Henry that does school programs.

One of our big programs every year is the Youth Deer Hunt that is sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Hunters and the Giles County Deer Hunters Association. It is held during the juvenile deer hunt and lots of kids come out to win prizes and have a great time.

Contact Officer David Crane for more information about these programs in Giles County.

The Giles County Youth Program would like to thank the following companies for providing the program with much needed support and donation of materials:

Home Depot, Whitetail Institute, Richland Trace Market, Giles County Farmers Co-op, Giles County Farm Center, & Summit Tree Stands
