Tennessee Quota Hunts

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency realizes that in some areas of Tennessee, the number of hunters needs to be restricted so as not to cause a major impact on the resource. In these areas, the Agency utilizes a quota hunt system.

The quota hunt system randomly selects a specified number of hunters from a pool of applicants. Applications are processed through the Online License Center on the Internet and through any TWRA license agent.

Tennessee has a priority point system in place for several of its quota hunts. An applicant is awarded one point for each year he/she applies and is unsuccessful up to the maximum for that particular hunt. Each point system is unique and separate for the different quota hunts.

Special Season Antlerless-only Deer Hunts

QUOTA HUNTS - Special quota permit required, except for landowners hunting under the landowner exemption. Bag limit, one antlerless deer per permit except where specified.

NON-QUOTA HUNTS - No hunter quota but a Type 094 permit is required except for landowners hunting on their own land, Sportsman and Lifetime Sportsman license holders, and hunters who possess a Type 167 permit. All ages need a Type 094 permit for county non-quota hunts.

How to Apply for Special Season Quota Hunts Permits
You can obtain an instruction sheet (during the application period) at any TWRA license agent, TWRA regional office, or online. The applications can only be processed by TWRA license agents, personnel at a TWRA regional office or online. If applying in person, remain until your application is processed to verify that the information is correct and receive your receipt with your confirmation number. DO NOT MAIL THE INSTRUCTION SHEET. If you have questions, call (615) 781-6621 during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Central Time). You may begin applying for the Special Season Quota Hunts on July 24, 2008. The deadline is September 3, 2008. A computer drawing will be conducted to determine successful applicants. Permits are nontransferable and hunt dates may not be changed. Vacancy permits, if any, will be announced and sold on a first come, first served basis by TWRA license agents or online. Remember, public land is not available in all counties. Persons with a quota hunt permit must obtain permission from the appropriate landowner before hunting.
